Each time the the small koala gains a step or two, the big koala starts a fight, scratching and biting the little one and knocking him or her out of the tree.
Needless to say, the little koala then does what anybody would do in that situation: sits down and cries. When the camera zooms in on the little one, it stares into the lens so pitifully, waving its little arms and bellowing with all its heart about its misfortunes.
The poor baby only stops crying when the woman who's taking the video, Alicia Alexander, starts talking in a reassuring tone. "Poor little thing was kicked out of the tree!" she says. "You can come to our tree. There's plenty of trees!"
It isn't clear if the larger koala is a female that is rejecting the little suitor- in no uncertain terms, or if it is a larger male defending his territory. The videographer states that it's all a normal part of koala mating season.
"Mating and territory fighting is a regular occurrence during this time of season, and their sounds are terrifying!" she said. "I felt so sorry for this poor bubba, it was heartbreaking to watch and so hard not to go comfort it, I try not to interfere where possible."
Happily, this pitiful little guy or girl got a happy ending: Alexander reports that through perseverance and determination, the little koala eventually got its way, and finally made it safely up into the tree by nightfall.
