Although people are more aware now than ever before about poaching and the consequences of this barbaric practice, conditions for the persecuted animals haven't really improved very much at all. In March of 2012, some brutal poachers savagely hacked and terrorized three rhinos and then left them for dead, lying in puddles of their own blood!

Two of these incredible animals somehow managed to survive- they were named Themba and Thandi. Themba only lived for 24 days after he was rescued, he died from drowning in a watering hole. He was too weak to save himself.

Thankfully, Thandi didn't give up on life and was on the slow road to recovery. On January 13, 2015, she gave birth to a calf at Kariega Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

The video below tells the story of Thandi and her calf. It's a movie by Adrian Steirn, a photographer and filmmaker.

Take a look at how these amazing men have changed the lives of these incredible animals and made a long lasting impact toward their conservation!
