Monday morning, New Zealand was devastated when a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook the small east coast town of Kaikoura. The quake has claimed the lives of at least two people.

But, as fate would have it, three survivors were spotted standing atop a tiny patch of ground that had gone untouched by the destructive force. The three cows had barely escaped being swept away in the massive landslide that was caused by the quake.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that any farmers or emergency services that could get to the area to lend a helping hand, should do so as quickly as possible and so, with a little help the farmer who owns the property was able to rescue them along with eleven other cows that belonged to the group.

These cows help serve as a reminder that humans aren't the only ones that are affected adversely when storms and other natural disasters strike.

The aerial footage captured by a news helicopter shows the two adult cows along with a calf that had been left stranded on the grassy island near Kaikoura one of, the coastal regions that was hit hardest by the quake.
